The Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge opened on May 1, 1999. It is located atop Ski Hill, two miles from the Talkeetna townsite, on a 35-acre lot owned by its parent company, Cook Inlet Region, Inc.
A truly Alaskan lodge, many resources used in the construction came directly from the land of our beautiful state:
The logs used in the lodge's interior are from the town of Ninilchik, on the Kenai Peninsula. The birch trim was harvested from Trapper Creek, and the staircase railing is white spruce from the Matanuska Valley. The ceiling is unique knotty pine.
The centerpiece of the grand lobby, a 56-foot tall river-rock fireplace, continuously burns a birch-fed fire. The Colony High School Football Team of Palmer, Alaska, collected the rocks used in the fireplace directly from the bed of the Matanuska River. Approximately 160 tons of rock were used and each rock was individually washed. A tent was constructed around the fireplace site and it took workers nine weeks to complete the fireplace in temperatures of -30�F.
