08/19/2005 - 'Fridays are for the Birds'Every Friday at the Anchorage RV Park, the Bird Treatment and Learning Center (Bird TLC), a non-profit wild bird rehabilitation program, presents an up close look of the wild birds of Alaska.Bird rehabilitation experts lecture on bird anatomy, eating habits and what Bird TLC does for the injured winged creatures. Past lectures have included information on the American bald eagle and the raven. On Aug. 19, Karen Ottenbreit will lecture on the American kestrel and on Aug. 26 Steve Ross will talk about the great horned owl. Lectures will be presented at the Anchorage RV Park’s pavilion at 7 p.m. Kent Briske of The Cleaning Company is a contractor for the Anchorage RV Park, and is also a volunteer for the Bird TLC. He started the program at the Anchorage RV Park to spread the word about how the Bird TLC cares for and rehabilitates birds at the center. This is the first year the Anchorage RV Park and the Bird TLC have cohosted the program and they hope to continue the program for many summers to come. This summer’s program is scheduled to run through the month of August. “The ‘Fridays are for the Birds’ program enhances our guests’ experience of camping in the woods, and it helps them appreciate the wildlife that surrounds them,” says Delia Call, general manager of the Anchorage RV Park. “People often see wildlife from the road, but they develop a deeper appreciation once they see them up close and learn more about their habits.” The “Fridays are for the Birds” is free to guests of the Anchorage RV Park and the general public. Donations to the Bird TLC are greatly appreciated. The Anchorage RV Park is owned and operated by the CIRI Alaska Tourism Corporation (CATC). The Corporation’s products also include Kenai Fjords Tours, the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge, Prince William Sound Cruises & Tours, the Seward Windsong Lodge, Mariah Tours and the Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge. CATC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI), one of 12 Alaska-based regional Native corporations.
