03/02/2005 - Annual Copper River Delta Shorebird Festival

Join Kenai Fjords Tours and Prince William Sound Cruises for the 2nd Annual Copper River Delta Shorebird Festival on May 6 through 8, 2005. The cruise departs from Whittier on Friday, May 6 at 10 a.m., and arrives in Cordova at 4 p.m. Guests spend two nights in Cordova and return to Whittier by boat on Sunday, May 8 at 12 p.m.

The exciting six-hour cruise allows guests to see the extraordinary behavior of numerous shorebirds and other indigenous birds, and the marine mammals that inhabit the calm, protected waters of Prince William Sound. The journey from Whittier to Cordova by sea offers unforgettable scenery of mountains and glaciers that should not be missed.

The Copper River Delta Shorebird Festival is one of Alaska’s premier birding events. Millions of shorebirds feed and rest on the tidal flats during their spring migration. You will see over 30 species of shorebirds, including: western sandpipers, sanderlings, dowitchers, plovers, dusky Canadian geese, trumpeter swans and more.

Enjoy the festivities by participating in daily shorebird watching field trips, guest speakers, photography and birding workshops, Birder’s Bash dinner and silent auction and a grand finale parade.
